Touch The Dark - Karen Chance

A little bit of vampire and a little bit of torture. Not for the faint-hearted, as it describes in detail some of the Inquisition's favorite pasttimes.
The book is clever with interweaving famous/infamous history figures with story background, but it is kind of a distraction from what is going on in the plot. If you can figure out what that is. I am all for reader surprises, but it kind of pisses me off when I don't know what is going on until halfway through the book. Another thing that bothered me was the distraction from what was happening in the scene. At one point it was long, drawn out conversations that interrupted an action scene and at another time I just wanted them to stop fighting long enough to find out what the hell was going on! But this is still a first book. And I was interested enough at the end to want to read the second book. Maybe the author will get better in time. The sequel to this novel comes out in April of 2007, and I am willing to give her a second chance...ha ha! Get it? Ahhh...terrible joke.
Would I Read This Again? No
Would I Recommend? Yes, but only as background for the second (hopefully better) book.
